Photographic awards - the best way to learn the craft
This weekend the South Australian branch of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP SA) are running their Professional Photography Awards, the SAPPAs. Everyone is welcome to sit in on the judging and witness a pretty cool process: in a darkened room, a panel of judges consider the entries one by one, and rate them on a scale of 50 to 100, most entries receive comments and discussions, so the process is an excellent way to learn about photography.
The work is divided into different categories, so you can choose to attend the sessions that suit your interests. Generally the work is excellent, we have some of the best photographic talents in the world here in little old Adelaide, and this event brings the best out.
Here is a graphic of the judging schedule.
Listening to pictures being discussed, and in turn, discussing it with friends really hones your understanding of what makes a good photograph. Plus you get to rub shoulders with SA's best photographers who will be there to watch their work being judged.
When: Sunday July 26th at 8.30am and finishing Monday the 27th at 7pm. Where: Marden Senior College, Marden SA (see map below). Cost: Free Website: AIPP SA
