We are very proud to announce the winner Renate Smitham and second place DJ Paine in the One Day For Sight photographic challenge.
From 150 entries, esteemed judges, Lisa Slade – Deputy Director Art Gallery South Australia, Narelle Autio – acclaimed Australian photographer, and Hugo Michell – Art dealer, Hugo Michell Gallery, extracted 27 diverse and strong works to form this exhibition.
The team at Atkins then worked with the entrants to produce the supporting exhibition by making large prints, mounting and then hanging them in a spectacular space. The space is graciously supplied by the South Australian Government, the new wing of the Adelaide Convention Centre is perfect for such a grand exhibition. Not only was the space donated, but so was the catering at the launch! Our taxes at work.
Special thanks must go to our generous sponsors, Optos, who provided $3,000 for the winner and $2,000 for the second place, and Ziess for their $1800 lens for the winner. Remarkable prizes, thank you.
Funds raised from the competition and subsequent exhibition will go to blindness prevention organisation Sight For All, a local charity run by co-founder of this challenge, James Muecke. Thanks to the Sight For All crew for their background work, and to Chris Dearden for his IT support.
Thank you to all of the entrants, your work was inspiring! Below is a gallery of the 27 chosen works from three continents!
And lastly...all photographs are available for order either as framed, mounted, or loose prints. Profits from this sale will go to fund Sight For All's blindness prevention programs. Contact Sight For All to order.
