The Atkins Family
In 1936, William George (W.G.) formed Atkins Photography, he worked for many years with his wife Emily Daisy as a horse racing and generalist photographer, always printing his photographs and others' through the years.
In 1960 John Atkins joined his father in business and his talents as a technician led him to open a colour laboratory which quickly attracted a clientele struggling with colour photography. Atkins led Adelaide into the colour era in the 1960s.
In the early 1990s, Paul, John’s son joined the lab when Atkins took over another lab Tecnicolour, as a full time colour mural printer. During the 90s Kodak introduced Atkins to digital printing, and by 1998 Paul was running Atkins digital services, and by 2002 the majority of production involved digital processes.
In 2007 the team expanded when Duckpond was acquired by Atkins and large format fine art ink printing became a mainstay.
Today, Paul's wife Kate has joined the team. After running a successful graphic design business for over 15 years Kate decided to throw her lot in with the family. It's where her heart was all along. The addition of Kate's talents have led to a renewal of not only the visual look of the lab from a marketing and branding perspective but also innovation in our approach to our customers by opening up a more retail friendly aspect of the business.
Kate is also a champion product designer. As a direct result of working close to customers and stylists, she has built some of the most popular products Atkins has made to date.
Atkins has always believed that a rising tide floats all boats, sharing our discoveries with the industry has kept us brimming with life and on the cutting edge. We love photography, we know it is the language of the world, and we are here to serve it.
